1. Your first cosplay.
My first “cosplay” ever was of Sasuke from Naruto (obviously) I don’t have any pictures because it was something I threw together to match the neighboorkid next door who was my Naruto and we would we dick around in the backyard. This was before I new about cosplay culture or conventions or that there were lots of people out their who like anime and got together to hang out.
My first real cosplay was Xemnas from Kingdomhearts II. This was the year after I had found out what cosplay was. I spent the halloween of 2006 at a friends house whose sister was a fashion student a ryerson. The sister had made my friend this gorgeous Card Captor Sakura outfit that I was amazed by because I loved that series. She was going to wear it while we went trick-or-treating but told how she had worn it to Otafest and showed me a bunch of her convention pictures. From then on I was set to cosplay a character I liked and go to Otafest and hang out. In that sense Otafest was (and still is) primarily about the cosplay for me. I went with the intention of meeting other people in costume and making new friends. Back to the story.
Anyways Otafest had already passed for that year and in 2007 I didn’t have and friends who wanted to go and I was too scared to go alone. In the fall on 2007 a group of friends and I began to really love the kingdom hearts series. I told them about Otafest and they all really wanted to go. A girl who was new to our group had gone the year before and would tell us all about the cool costumes she saw and it really made the rest of us want to go in costume. We worked together to order matching cloaks online, find dark shoes and get wigs, hair dye and hair gel. So in the spring of 2008 we went to Otafest as a group and I was hooked.
Images above. Note I am still selling this costume. If you’re interested let me know and we can work something out C:
I remember that costume! That was the Otafest that Wazy and I met you. We were driving by, and Wazy saw you and went ‘OMG THERE’S DEO SHE LOOKS AWESOME’, but she wasn’t watching where she was driving and almost crashed.
That’s right. She almost crashed a car because you’re too awesome.
